Mission Statement
The aim of the school is to prepare the boys academically, physically and psychologically for entry into the NDA for a career as officer in the Armed Forces, and also to enable them to accept the challenges from other coveted walks of public life. The school motto “Can do it” signifies an indomitable spirit, determination to strive and to achieve.

Background
Sainik School, Purulia is a residential school for boys imparting public school education with a military base. This school is eighth in the series of Sainik Schools in different parts of the country. It was founded on 29th January, 1962.

Campus
The magnificent structure of the Sainik School, Purulia, comprises the main teaching block, well-equipped laboratories, a library, reading room, and an arts and crafts room. Adjacent to the block, there is an auditorium where the assembly and co-curricular activities are conducted.

Atmosphere
The school campus is located in the midst of nature in most salubrious and picturesque surroundings with trees, orchards and green fields all around; far away from din and dust, hustle and bustle of city life. Standing majestically amongst lawns and meadows, the correct atmosphere for any student.

The Pupils
The boys take an active part in the administration of their houses. Each house has a House Captain, Vice-Captain and Prefects who are responsible for maintaining discipline and orderliness within the House. The school captain appointed, is the senior most student. All boys dine together. Boys as members of the mess committee every month work out weekly menus and discuss other suggestions for mess improvements. The health of the boys is regularly attended to by a qualified doctor assisted by a pharmacist.

Affiliation
The school is from class VI to XII under the 10+2 scheme and is affiliated to Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi. The school is also a member of IPSC. The medium of instruction is English with Bengali and Hindi as compulsory subjects up to Class VIII. Other main subjects taught up to Class X are English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Life Science, History and Civics, Economics, Geography, SUPW, and Physical Education. The school prepares boys for UPSC Examination for admission to the NDA and Indian Naval Academy during Class XII. The school caters for the Science stream only and the subjects taught are English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. Bengali/Hindi may be offered as an additional subject. The All India Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII) is conducted by the CBSE, New Delhi.

Results / Exams
The internal examination system consists of four monthly tests, two term tests followed by the annual examination at the end of the session. Those boys who do not show satisfactory progress are warned at the end of each term and their parents/guardians are also informed. The minimum marks required for class promotion are 40% in each subject and 50% in the aggregate. If a student fails, he is withdrawn from the school.

Sports
The school provides adequate facilities for various games like Cricket, Lawn tennis, Football, Handball, Table tennis, Boxing obstacles and Cross country runs, for toughening the boys to be able to face various situations. Athletic activities and regular PT form an integral part of their training programme.

Extra curricular activities
The school provides ample scope for the development of the boys’ creative faculties and skills in arts and crafts. What deserves a special mention is the scope for hobbies like debates, dramatics, stamp collection, gardening, and ship modelling.

Mission Statement
Sainik School, Ghorakhal aims at preparing its students for the officers cadre in the Armed Forces, and for entry into the NDA, Khadakvasla. The school also prepares the boys for various other responsible positions in all walks of life.

Background
Sainik School, Ghorakhal is a residential school providing public school education. It was established on 21st March, 1966. The School was established in Ghorakhal Estate of the Nawab of Rampur near Bhowali in Nainital District. It is the only Sainik School in the state of Uttaranchal. Hundreds of students have joined IMA, OTA, IAF, Navy, AFMC, IAS, IPS, the coast guard, banking services.

Campus
The school is situated at an altitude of about 6100 feet above mean sea level amidst idyllic surroundings of the Kumaon Hills. It has a salubrious climate which is quite conducive to studies as well as games, sports and other co-curricular activities. This school is exclusively meant for boys between the age group of 10 to 11 years.

Atmosphere
Boys are prepared academically, physically and mentally for entry into National Defence Academy (NDA).

Sports
Hockey, Cricket, Athletics, Football, Table tennis, Basketball and Volleyball are the principal games. Cross country and boxing are the other main attractions.

Extra curricular activities
There are a number of clubs for the students. A Radio Club, Photography Club, English and Hindi Debating Club and a Gardening Club to enrich the life of the school. NCC training is compulsory for all students. The ‘Cock House Shield’ being the most coveted trophy for various competitions.

Admission
Boys are admitted to Class VI only from the age of ten to eleven. An All India Sainik Schools Entrance Examination is held annually on a tentative date (preferably the last Sunday of February) Boys who are between the age of 10-11 years and 13-14 years respectively on the 1st of July of the year in which admission is sought are eligible to take the examination for entry into class VI and IX respectively. 67% seats are reserved for candidates of Uttaranchal domicile and 33% for other states and Union Territories. There is a 25% quota for Defence candidates. 15% and 7.5% respectively to SC and ST candidates. The rest of the boys come from General category.

Management
The Sainik Schools are managed by a Society which is registered under the Societies Registration Act (XXI of 1860). A Board of Governors that functions under the Chairmanship of the Defence Minister, is the Chief Executive Body of the Sainik Schools Society. The Board of Governors meets at least once a year or as often as is considered necessary by the Chairman. The school has a Local Board of Administration for overseeing the functioning of the school and its finances. The Chief Minister or the Education Minister of the state are among the members of the Board of Governors. An officer of the Ministry of Defence is nominated to supervise and co-ordinate the functioning of the school and functions as the Honorary Secretary of the Sainik Schools Society. The Honorary Secretary is assisted by officers and staff of the Ministry of Defence. This includes two inspecting officers of the rank of Colonel or equivalent.

How to get there
The school is located at a distance of approximately 4 kms from Bhowali and 16 kms from Nainital. Kathgodam is the nearest rail head (Terminus) which is 40 kms away from the school. The nearest airport is Pant Nagar, 70 kms away and a direct bus from Delhi to Nainital takes 8 hours.

Mission Statement
The primary aim of the school is to provide public school education to the boys mostly coming from rural areas, to prepare them for entry into the NDA. As the boys are groomed to become potential officers in the Armed Forces of our country, special emphasis is given to activities directed towards character building, team spirit, dedication to purpose, a patriotic outlook and a desire to serve the country. The cadets who love the environment are encouraged to be honest, hard working, courageous, dignified, efficient, and studious. They are expected to be bodily strong young citizens of India.

Resource generation
The school gets scholarship fund from State and Central Govternment for students who stand first on merit during the selection for admission. Rest of the students fall in the Half Fee, 3/4 Fee, and Full Fee paying categories. Presently the school gets Rs 14000.00 per student as tuition fees.

Background
The concept of Sainik Schools originated with Mr. Krishna Menon, who was our Defence Minister in the early sixties. Mr. Menon felt that a school with the rudiments of a military way of life in each state of our country, could go a long way in building up an infrastructure for intake into the NDA. Thus Sainik Schools came into being in each state. This school is one of the 20 Sainik Schools of the country. It came into being on 16th July 1962.

Campus
Sainik School, Amaravathinagar stands majestically sprawled amidst nature’s beauty. The main school building is a modern structure with an auditorium. It houses the class rooms, well-equipped laboratories, a language lab, where students get an opportunity to exploit their talents. A well-stocked library has a collection of more than fifteen thousand books. The administrative block houses the computer section with local area network installed, multimedia machines, laser printer, colour inkjet printer and dot matrix printer. A craft section, and the preparatory school; the Hobbies Clubs provide the boys immense satisfaction. Some of the clubs are Aero-modelling, Photography, and the Dramatics club. The school infirmary has provision for 10 beds in the general ward and one isolation ward. The boys mess provides balanced food for its students. The mess committee regularly meets to ensure the smooth functioning of the mess. The cadets are housed in the boys dormitories. This provides healthy rivalry in academics, sports and other recreational activities. Four guest suites are available to parents on a nominal rent. A cafeteria run by the school provides refreshments for the boys at concessional rates.

Atmosphere
The school is located in a picturesque little place at the foot of the Anamalai Hills. The sprawling campus is huddled far from the maddening crowd. It commands a panoramic view of the Anamalai Hills and the Amaravathi Dam. It covers an area of nearly 215 acres of land.

The Head
The Principal of Sainik School, Amaravathinagar, is Lt. Col. Rajendra Verma, AEC M.Sc., M.Ed., DDE., TO (PSY). The school is managed by the Principal assisted by the Headmaster for Academics and Registrar for Administration. All these three appointments are from the Services (Army/Navy/Air force). Officers from various wings of the Services are posted for a period of 2 to 3 years. Presently Lt Col Rajendra Verma, AEC from Army is the Principal, Lt Cdr. S Mahendra Singh from Navy is the Headmaster & Flt. Lt H S Choudhary is the Registrar.

The Pupils
The cadets are housed in the boys dormitories. Picnics and hikes are organised to give the boys a chance to study nature and develop a love for adventure. The school sends a few selected boys on rock climbing and adventure courses. 67% of the seats are reserved for boys from Tamil Nadu. The shortfall, if any and the remaining seats are open to boys from other states and union territories. 25% seats are reserved for children of service personnel (including Officers & Ex-servicemen and other ranks) subject to a maximum of 36 full scholarships per Sainik School. 15% and 7 1/2% of the total vacancies are reserved for Schedule Castes and Scheduled Tribes respectively. There are approximately 90 seats for Class VI and 20 seats for Class IX.

Affiliation
Affiliated to the Central Board Of Secondary Education, New Delhi, the school prepares boys for All India Secondary School and All India Senior School Certificate Examinations. The school prepares boys for the Union Public Service Commission Examination for admission to the NDA.

Results / Exams
Promotions in school are made after carefully considering the boy’s performance. The minimum standard for promotion to the next class is 40% marks in each subject and 50% marks in the aggregate. One failure is allowed during the “Orientation Period”. (Either in Class VI or Class VII).

Sports
Being a Sainik School, it is imperative that stress is laid down on proficiency in games and physical fitness. Participation in physical activities is compulsory. The school has 24 play fields, one tennis court, and 4 basketball courts. Organised physical activities especially team games are regarded by the school as of great educational value. The boys have facility to learn Swimming, Boxing, Athletics and Gymnastics.

Extra curricular activities
The school has various extra curricular activities. These activities are conducted on every Wednesday as Hobby Club activities.

Fees
The school fees due from a student are Rs 14000.00 per annum, subject to revision by the Board Of Governors. The parents are required to pay a fine for late fee payment. Fees should be sent by means of Demand Draft only, drawn in favour of the Principal. The full fee paying students, half scholarship, quarter scholarship and Defence scholarship holders are to pay clothing Fees of Rs 1000.00 for the first year and Rs 500.00 per annum for each of the subsequent years, at the beginning of each year. General candidates are to pay caution money of Rs 1000.00 at the time of admission. SC/ST boys are to pay only Rs 500.00. The deposit is refundable after deducting dues if any. All parents are to remit the pocket money to the school as intimated. The actual expenses incurred by the boy will be debited against the Pocket Money account and the unspent balance, if any, will be carried forward to the next year’s pocket money. All other expenditure incurred by the boy which are not provided by the parent will be charged from the pocket money account.

Admission
Class VI boys seeking admission should have completed 10 years of age but not completed 11 years as on 1st July of the year of admission. He should not have earlier appeared for the Sainik School Entrance Examination from any other centre in India. Class IX boys seeking admission should have completed 13 years of age but not completed 14 years as on 1st July of the year of admission. The boys seeking admission to Class IX should be studying in Class VIII in a recognised school. He should not have earlier appeared for Sainik School Entrance Examination for Class IX from any other centre in India. The medium of examination for both Class VI and Class IX will be English.

Scholarship
The Government of Tamil Nadu has instituted a liberal scholarship scheme for the award of scholarships to deserving students of Tamil Nadu.

  1. The 50 Merit Scholarships awarded on the basis of merit shall be tenable for the entire period of study of the boys in the school; the continuance of the grant of scholarship to the boys every year shall be subject to the condition that they perform well in their studies.

  2. The scholarship will be awarded on merit on the basis of the All India level Entrance Examination in Sainik School, Amaravathinagar, irrespective of the parental income. The benefit will go only to the Tamil Nadu domiciled boys.

  3. The scheme of “merit scholarship” is reviewed by the Govt. of Tamil Nadu every two years. If the boy wishes to continue to enjoy the scholarship, it can be done so, subject to satisfactory conduct and steady progress.

  4. The scholarship is liable to be cancelled in case of failure to secure the minimum marks prescribed. Then parents are liable to pay full fees for their son for the subsequent years.

Management
The Sainik Schools all over the country are administered by the Board of Governors, Sainik School Society, New Delhi. The Union Minister of Defence is the Chairman and the Education Ministers of various states are members of the Board of Governors. The Deputy Secretary (Training) in the Ministry of Defence is the Honorary Secretary and is responsible for the smooth functioning of the school. The Executive Committee under the Chairmanship of Defence Secretary controls and supervises the affairs of the school, and meets twice a year. The decisions of the Executive Committee are placed before the Board of Governors for ratification. In addition the school is administered by a Local Board of Administration which deals with day-to-day administration of the school and ensures that the general policy laid down by the Board of Governors is implemented. GOC Andhra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala and Goa is the Chairman of the LBA of the school.

Alumni
All the boys who pass out of the school are made members of Amravian Alumni Association which is the backbone for the younger generation.

Mission Statement

Students are exposed to the wholesome influence and ethos of discipline and duty so that they are brought up as sincere, dignified and well-balanced personalities as per the school motto ‘Dignity and Valour’. The school aims at developing qualities of body, mind and character which will enable the young boys to become useful citizens. Students who fail to make it to NDA are prepared for other walks of life. The school also stresses on removal of regional imbalance in the officer cadre of the Defence Services.

Background
Sainik School, Chittorgarh, is one of the five Sainik Schools first founded in the country by the then Defence Minister, Mr. V.K. Krishna Menon. The school was founded on 7th August, 1961. It was housed in Bhopal (what is now the Circuit House). The driving force behind the establishment of this school was Shri Mohanlal Ji Sukhadia, Ex CM and Governor. The founder principal was Brigadier Sankata Menon, AEC. He headed the institution from 24th June, 1961 to 26th August, 1967.

Campus
The school estate extends to about 280 acres. The main school building, dormitories for students, residential quarters for staff, planned dairy farm, fruit orchard, infirmary, open stadium, auditorium, boys mess, guest house and extensive playgrounds are all located in its well laid out school campus. The Berach river skirts the eastern boundary of the school estate. On the eastern horizon also stands the majestic and historical 4th century AD Fort of Chittor, aloft a plateau. This fort itself is memorable to the history of Rajasthan and India.

The institution is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi.

Sports
Participation in games is compulsory. There are facilities for Hockey, Cricket, Athletics, Football, Tennis, Boxing, Handball, Baseball, Squash, Badminton, Volleyball and Cross country. Physical training and health yoga education are imparted under the guidance of Army Physical Training Instructors and a trained teacher. All the boys except Class XII form part of the Junior Division wing of the NCC. Boys participate in all DG, NCC sponsored activities like Republic Day Camp, Annual Training Camp, adventure courses and NCC state level camps.

Extra curricular activities
The school organises various clubs like English and Hindi Literary Club, Music Club, Science and Electronics Club, Photography and Fine Arts Club, UNESCO Club, Public Speaking Club, Adventure Club (including Trekking), Yoga Club, Nature Study Club, craft including Canning Club, Book Binding, Horticulture Club, Phenyle, Soap, Candle and Chalk Making Club. All these clubs function vigorously. Treks and tours also form an integral part of school life. Mountaineering expeditions in liaison with Army Adventure Cell are also planned.

Admission
Admission is confined to boys in Class VI only. Boys must be between the age group of 10-11 years on the 1st July of the year in which admission is sought. Boys are admitted on the basis of the merit prepared as per written examination, interview and medical examination. All India Entrance Examination, interview and medical examination are normally conducted in the second/third week of February and April respectively every year.

Scholarship
The following scholarships are available to boys :

a) Governor of Rajasthan Scholarships: Only for boys of this State
b) Ministry of Defence Scholarships: Only for children of Armed Forces personnel & ex-servicemen.
c) Government of India Merit Scholarships: For studies in residential public schools including Sainik Schools.

Management
The school is run on public school lines with a distinct military bias. The overall administration of the school rests with the Board of Governors, headed by the Defence Minister. Day-to-day administration is looked after by the Local Board of Administration. Three inter-service officers are posted as the Principal, Headmaster and Registrar. The academic, administrative and ministerial staff are permanent.

Destination
The main aim of the school is to groom the selected students to join the Armed Forces through the National Defence Academy.

Mission Statement
The school aims at providing public school education within the reach of common man and to remove regional imbalance in the officer cadre of the three services. The students are helped in developing officer like qualities and an aptitude for a commission in the Armed Forces. Sound character, balanced personality, inner discipline, dedication, patriotic outlook and the desire to serve the country are the aims of training imparted in Sainik Schools. To achieve these aims, the school uses the tutor and prefect system and lays adequate emphasis on extracurricular activities, physical training, games and NCC training.

Background
Sainik School, Kapurthala was inaugurated by the then Defence minister, Sh. V K Krishna Menon on 8 July, 1961. It is a residential school, providing public school education aimed at preparing students for a commission in the armed forces and for responsible positions in other walks of life.

Campus
The school is located in the palace of the erstwhile Maharaja of Kapurthala, situated on the outskirts of Kapurthala town, about 19 kms from Jalandhar city. The Punjab Government bought it and gave it to the school, and new buildings for hostels, mess, auditorium, gymnasium-cum-swimming, residential quarters for the staff were also constructed. The school also has a well-equipped hospital which is run under the supervision of a resident nursing sister and a visiting part-time doctor.

The school admits boys from Defence as well as Civil background.

Affiliation
The school is affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi for the Secondary School Examination (Class X) and the Senior School Certificate Examination (Class XII).

Sports
Games are compulsory for all boys. A student has to participate in one game or the other. School has the facilities for Hockey, Cricket, Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Tennis, Table tennis, Squash, Badminton and other indoor games. The school also has a full-fledged obstacle course, gymnasium and swimming pool for training the cadets.

Extra curricular activities
Productive activities are also encouraged like music, photography, batik, leather work, engraving, clay modelling, drawing and painting, graphics, wood work, metal work, printing and composing, book craft, electronics, repairs to electrical gadgets, journalism, dramatics and making of utility items like soap, detergents, candles, hair oil, fountain pen ink etc. The school band ‘Contingent’ has been participating regularly in the Republic Day Parade for the last 3 years.

Admission
An All India Entrance Test and Interview is generally held in December/January at centres throughout the country. Candidates are tested in Arithmetic, Language and General Knowledge. Selected candidates are called for interviews and medical fitness tests.

Scholarships are awarded by the Government of Punjab, Union Territory of Chandigarh and Ministry of Defence based on the income of the parents. New scholarship schemes announced by the Government of Punjab would benefit wider segments of society.

How to get there
The nearest airports are Amritsar and Ludhiana which are both at a distance of 70 kms. There is direct bus service to Kapurthala and train services are also available there.
